The bacteria most associated with breakouts — Cutibacterium acnes (formerly known as Propionibacterium acnes) — live on healthy skin too. It has always been there. The problem begins when conditions shift: elevated cortisol, excess sebum production, and a compromised barrier. When these factors align, the bacterial population tips out of balance, triggering the inflammatory cascade that produces a breakout.

This means that simply attacking bacteria — the logic behind most conventional acne treatments — addresses only one part of a more complex picture. Suppressing inflammation without addressing the underlying imbalance is why breakouts return.

This formula was built around a different premise: restore the conditions for balance, rather than declare war on the skin.

Note: For persistent or severe acne, this oil works best alongside lifestyle adjustments — stress management, diet, and sleep all directly affect cortisol and sebum production. No topical formula can fully compensate for systemic imbalance.

How this formula works

Three simultaneous targets: microbial balance, sebum regulation, and inflammation control.

Microbial balance

• Manuka (Leptospermum Scoparium) — contains triketones, compounds that are primary antagonists of gram-positive bacteria, more effective than tea tree against certain strains; broad-spectrum antimicrobial without disrupting the skin's overall microbial ecosystem; calms red, inflamed areas and soothes irritation.
• Frankincense (Boswellia Serrata) — resinous compounds with proven anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial action; promotes skin regeneration; helps reduce post-acne scarring.
• Cade (Juniperus Oxycedrus) — antiseptic and antifungal; addresses fungal-component breakouts that are often misidentified as bacterial acne
• Palmarosa — regulates sebaceous activity while maintaining microbial balance; antifungal and antibacterial without being aggressive.
• Lemongrass — antimicrobial and astringent; helps minimise the appearance of pores and control surface bacteria

Sebum regulation

• Geranium Bourbon — deeply nourishing while regulating sebum output; balances oily and combination skin without stripping; antifungal properties reduce harmful microbial activity
• Coriander Seed — a general immune system modulator; reduces pain and eliminates harmful microorganisms; prevents blackheads and comedones through its antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
• Siberian Pine Seed Oil — rich in pinolenic acid; helps regulate sebaceous gland activity; anti-inflammatory
• Chokeberry Seed Oil — exceptionally high in antioxidants; supports skin recovery and reduces oxidative stress that contributes to excess sebum

Inflammation control

• Tamanu (Calophyllum Inophyllum) — contains neoflavonoids and antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties; used to soothe and eliminate infectious skin conditions; proven antibacterial; reduces redness, scarring, and irritation; prevents hyperpigmentation.
• Andiroba (Carapa Guianensis) — powerful anti-inflammatory properties; reduces redness, spots, and other inflammatory skin conditions, including eczema and psoriasis
• Pracaxi (Pentaclethra Macroloba) — highest known concentration of behenic acid; widely used for severe skin infections, including acne, psoriasis, rosacea, and scarring
• Chaulmoogra (Hydnocarpus Wightiana) — extracted from the seeds of a tree native to India and Southeast Asia; contains unique cyclopentenyl fatty acids with exceptionally strong antimicrobial activity; historically the primary treatment for leprosy before modern antibiotics — a testament to its antibacterial potency; used in modern skincare for eczema, psoriasis, and stubborn skin infections; helps even skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation.
• Kakadu Plum — native to the tropical forests of northwest Australia with a long history of indigenous medicinal use; rich in gallic acid and ellagic acid; antimicrobial and antibacterial; reduces redness, inflammation, and irritation.
• Sunflower Oil with Licorice Extract — licorice (Glycyrrhiza Glabra) is a well-documented anti-inflammatory and skin-brightening agent; it helps reduce post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation left by breakouts.
• Bergamot Mint (Mentha Citrata) — cooling and antiseptic; soothes active breakouts without the aggressive irritation of standard peppermint
• Natural Vitamin E — antioxidant protection; supports skin recovery and extends formula stability

Who this is for

Skin that breaks out consistently — not occasionally. Skin that is oily in some areas and reactive in others. Skin that has tried conventional acne treatments and found them too harsh, too drying, or temporarily effective at best.

How to use

Warm a few drops between palms. Press gently onto face until absorbed. If there is excess, blot lightly with a tissue rather than rubbing. Use morning and evening on clean skin, alone or layered under moisturiser. Your skin will tell you how much it needs.
