Wild Rose Velvet Soap

A bar of soap should leave your skin better than it found it.

Most cleansers — including many marketed as "gentle" or "natural" — rely on synthetic surfactants to remove dirt and oil. They work by stripping the skin's surface indiscriminately: sebum, impurities, and the lipid barrier all come off together. The tight, squeaky-clean feeling after washing is not cleanliness. It is barrier disruption.

Cold process soap works differently.

The cold process difference

Cold process soapmaking combines plant oils and lye at low temperatures, then allows the bar to cure naturally for 4–6 weeks. During this saponification process, something happens that most commercial soap manufacturers deliberately remove: glycerin forms naturally as a byproduct.

Plant-derived glycerin is one of the most effective natural humectants known — it draws moisture from the environment into the skin and holds it there. Commercial soap manufacturers typically extract this glycerin and sell it separately for use in lotions and creams, leaving the bar dry and stripping. In cold process soap, the glycerin stays exactly where it forms — inside the bar, releasing into the skin with every use.

The result is a cleanse that removes impurities without compromising the sebum layer. Skin feels clean and hydrated — not tight, not stripped, not in need of immediate moisturiser.

The oils

Every oil in this formula was chosen for what it contributes to the finished bar — both its skin benefit and its saponification properties.

  • Organic Coconut Oil — produces a rich, stable lather; deeply cleansing; provides the bar's structural hardness.
  • Palm Oil — extends the bar's longevity; contributes to a creamy, conditioning lather.
  • Castor Oil — the lather booster; attracts and retains moisture in the bubbles, making the lather exceptionally conditioning and skin-adhering
  • Sesame Oil — rich in sesamol and vitamin E; antioxidant and deeply nourishing; particularly beneficial for mature or sun-damaged skin
  • Apricot Kernel Oil — lightweight and rapidly absorbed; high in oleic and linoleic acid; conditions without heaviness; ideal for all skin types, including sensitive

The aromatic complex

Four essential oils — selected for function, not fragrance alone. During the 4–6 week cure, Rosewood's mid-base note acts as a natural fixative, anchoring the lighter top notes of Lavender and the sweet warmth of Rose and Geranium into the bar.

  • Rose Geranium — balances sebum production for both dry and oily skin simultaneously; astringent and toning; improves microcirculation for a visibly more radiant complexion after washing; the hormonal balancer of the blend
  • Wild Rose — rich in antioxidant compounds; accelerates cellular renewal; supports the repair of mature, dry, or environmentally stressed skin; increases elasticity over consistent use.
  • Rosewood (Bursera Graveolens) — gently antimicrobial without irritation; promotes epidermal cell regeneration; particularly suited to fatigued, dull, or sensitised skin; the fixative and regenerative anchor of the blend
  • Lavender — calms any potential reactivity from cleansing; soothes redness and itching; supports barrier stability post-wash; the universal harmoniser.

Together, this blend opens what aromatherapy practitioners describe as the heart centre — the emotional quality of feeling nourished and held. A morning wash becomes a brief, deliberate act of care.

Who this is for

All skin types. Particularly beneficial for skin that feels perpetually tight after cleansing, skin that is dull or fatigued, skin going through seasonal transition, or skin that has been sensitised by conventional surfactant-based cleansers.

How to use

Lather between palms or directly onto skin with warm water. Massage gently onto face or body. Rinse thoroughly. Pat dry.

As a natural, preservative-free bar, keep it dry between uses to extend its life. Store away from direct water contact.
